no sleep
no rest
i am weary
nothing is real tonight
everything is a static picture version of what it used to be
a carbon copy of a carbon copy of each previous moment
i am nothing but a shadow
in the corner of a photograph
a dark blur, just beyond the reach of the light
i am not alive in any sense of the word
i am in a conscious coma
a numb suspension of animation
there is only one thing that i can feel
there is a constant itch
an insatiable, biting, stinging urge
to bust down the closest door
and run
faster
and
farther
than my feet have ever dared to take me
until i no longer have enough breath to fill my lungs
until they burn
until every breath feels like a kissing flame
until every muscle tears a little at its seam
until my feet begin pound out a steady percussion driving me to anywhere beyond this unholy place
until sweat drips from my pores like sheets of rain
until this life
is flowing through my veins
like a rolling, furious tide
until i am home again
until i am real again

but

i am stone

i am lead

i am brick
